SPEF is the oldest nongovernmental and not-for-profit organization that represents the professional and scientific community in the area of Physical Education, Exercise and Sports in Portugal. SPEF was founded in 1983 with the purpose to study and disseminate knowledge about physical activity, physical education and sport by promoting a scientific attitude concerning the problems related with every kind of physical activities; improving the social contact between specialists of different areas, through the organization of scientific events and other forms of exchange and collaboration; encouraging the development of research projects, namely with interdisciplinary characteristics, in order to deepening of knowledge and the search for solutions to the problems affecting the development of Physical Education application areas; establish and maintain relationships with other national and foreign associations.
SPEF is a beneficiary directly supporting the EuPEO’s project coordination from FMH by co-planning and co-preparing all of its activities, as well as working with FMH in Portuguese data, outputs, and dissemination, and with the members on Europe-wide data, outputs and dissemination. SPEF’s research team comprises one of its Vice-Presidents Dr. João Costa as partner coordinator and responsible to directly support the EuPEO’s PI (Dr. Marcos Onofre) and its President MsEd. Nuno Ferro.
